BQ40Z50-R2: Charge Control Methods

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50

We are looking to implement a battery pack application for a production product.  We are planning to use the BQ40Z50.  I am trying to understand structurally what is the correct understanding of what it can and can't do

What I believe the BQ can do

 - Gauging

 - Protection (over current, over voltage, etc.)

  - Some Fault History

 - Basic Control of Charge / Discharge (if given a command)

What it can not do

 - Time charge/relax cycles

Please let me know if I am missing something.
