any suggested solution for Vin=-48V, Vout=12V, P=1.4KW?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28951, UCC28950, UCC27714

Could you help suggest the solution to convert -48V to 12V with 1.4KW? And non isolated solution is preferred. Thank you.

  • Aki Li,

For a -48V to +12V 116A converter, I would strongly recommend you consider a phase-shifted Full-bridge converter topology, even if you don't need the isolation, you can always short the input and output grounds together to defeat the topology's inherent isolation if you don't want it, but the transformer will give you a lot of benefits.  The turns ratio of the transformer will allow you to transfer current over the majority of the switching period to minimize peak currents achieving that 1.4kW energy transfer and simplify the inversion from -48 to +12V.

  • Peter,

Thank you. Is there any reference materials for this application? I am trying to see how to deal with this using UCC28950/ UCC28951.

  • Hi Aki,

Sorry for the long delay here, I missed you post as I thought it was already been supported.

TI does not have any reference designs at the 1kW+ power level. I have attached a couple that may be of some help as general guidance.

You can order the UCC27714 EVM which uses the UCC28950/51 controller, its 600W, 400V in 12V output

    I hope these help.
