LM5118: Buck/Boost in one design

Part Number: LM5118

Hello,

I am designing a buck-boost converter with these specifications:

18<Vin<32V, being able to withstand a peak of 65V

4.5V<Vout<50V

Io<0.5A

Theoretically, if I use a digital potentiometer instead of Rfbb, I should be able to control Vo such a way that I can have a step-down or step-up converter in one DC/DC.

Do you think it is possible or it is going to be very difficult to get a stable converter for the full Vo range?

I am thinking on LM5118. Do you advice another one?

Regards,
David

  • Hi Dave,

Thank  you for reaching out.  Yes you can control the output voltage by injecting a voltage FB pin. You just need to make sure that your injection is not pulling FB too low,or the output voltage will be excessive.  My suggestion is still using Rfbb, but feed your potentialmeter to FB through a resistor, then such accident can be prevented.

    Thanks,
