BQ24610: Question about the BQ24610 safety timer function

Part Number: BQ24610

Hi team,

My customer would like to use BQ24610 device for charging, but according to the maximum charging current, the charge time would be more than 10 hours, not in the range of 1h~10h. Could we use larger CTTC value (>0.11uF) to set larger charge time? And could you please share the way to disable the function, is there any risk? At present, customer found when achieve safety time, the BQ24610 device would stop charging and flash red light. Thanks a lot!

Best Regards

Zhengquan Lu

  • Hi Zhengquan,

Pulling TTC low (also disables termination) or TTC high (termination still enabled) will disable safety timer. Risk without safety timer is if battery cell is damaged then charge can continue indefinitely. Safety timer with larger than 10h (C > 0.11uF) has not been evaluated internally and should be validated by the engineer first, and no guarantees can be given with regards to accuracy. When safety timer expires, fault is indicated and charging will stop.
