TPS54824: Control V_out and I_out lower with SS/TRK pin

Part Number: TPS54824

Hello,

We're looking to use the TPS54824 to power a sensor.  In some cases we would like to lower the voltage & current to the sensor if it is getting too hot.

We noticed the SS/TRK pin on the device:

  • Can this pin be used during normal operation of the IC to lower Vout / Iout?
  • Or can this pin only used during start-up sequence?

Thank you, Keith

  • Hi Keith,

The SS/TRK pin can be used to lower the Vout. If the SS/TRK pin drops below the internal reference, it will start to control the output voltage again. How accurate would the output voltage adjustment need to be?

There is not really an easy way to adjust the output current. It is likely possible to add some external circuit that senses the output current then either injects current into the FB pin or drives the COMP voltage. However this would be a bit more complicated. Does adjusting the output voltage also change the current? In other words does this sensor act like a resistive load?

    Best Regards,
    Anthony

  • Hi Keith,

Do you need any more support on this? Just let me know if you have any further question.
