TPS2546: Is there any solution for testing TPS2546?

Part Number: TPS2546

hello

we want to test TPS2546 whether it is in normal status such as it can support IPAD charging SPEC.

How should we set the test method to verify that TPS2546 can support IPAD charging SPEC when our PCBA is manufactured?

Thanks

  • Hello Jesse,

Please refer to Figure 3 within the datasheet. You will need to put the device into DCP_Auto mode which will advertise DCP shorted, 1.2V mode, Divider 1 or Divider 2. For more information on DCP Auto, please read section 8.4.1 within the datasheet.

  • I have already set TPS2546 into DCP_Auto mode.

My question is how to test whether it is operating normally in DCP_Auto mode when we do mass production in factory.

Our end customer want to add a step to test TPS2546 can support charging IPAD.

We connect IPAD to test it currently, but the test efficency is vey low, we want design a test tool or fixture instead of IPAD to test TPS2546.

  • Hi Jesse,

I see, thank you for the clarification. I believe the easiest method of detecting what charging scheme the TPS2546 would be to still connect a IPAD to the charging port, but add a breakout board in between the TPS2546 and the IPAD to measure the D+/D- lines. Depending on what those levels are, it will tell yo whether the device is in DCP, divider 1, or divider 2 mode. The alternative would be to create your own test equipment that would be able to successfully advertise as a divider charging device, and then pull enough current (>750mA) to where it went from divider 1 to divider 2.

Hope this helps answer your question

  • HI  Adam

Thanks very much for your support!

For the second method you mentioned, could you hep provide the details of operatiing theory or protocol, so that we can develop the test equipment?

  • hello

    any update?

    Thanks

  • HI Jesse,

Unfortunately I do not know the method of how an iPhone or iPad advertises that it is such a device that requires Divider 1 or Divider 2. You would need to find that information on your own if you wish to incorporate this functionality into your system and take the second solution route.
