BQ76930: how bq76930 detects the load in Overcurrent of charge or Overcurrent of Discharge

Part Number: BQ76930
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350, BQ78350-R1

Hello:

 I would like to know how bq76930 detects the load in Overcurrent of charge or Overcurrent of Discharge,How does it work?(

 The bq78350 has the Removal recovery function

)

  • Hi Laker,

    The BQ76930 detects overcurrent in discharge (OCD) by the voltage across a sense resistor presented on the SRP and SRN pins.  When the voltage exceeds a threshold on a comparator the fault is set and if FETs were on they are turned off.

    The BQ76930 does not detect overcurrent charge (OCC).  Overcurrent charge can be detected by a MCU or gauge like the BQ78350-R1 by comparing the current read from the CC to a threshold and for a duration.

    The OCD status in the BQ76930 must be reset by the MCU or gauge based on its decision from measurement or timing.  The OCC condition is maintained in the MCU and it must determine a recovery condition also.
