BQ76PL455A: Less than 16 cells

Part Number: BQ76PL455A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76PL536A

Hi,

The data sheet mentions that if less than 16 cells used, the unused channel input stages should be omitted and device pins should be shorted. What happens say if we short unused battery inputs to the top of the stack at the battery input socket? It was possible for BQ76PL536A

  • HI Ozcetin,

Goto figure 25 of Pl455A-Q1 datasheet. They are connected to top of stack through back to back diode.

PL536A-Q1 and Pl455A-Q1 concept is same except Pl455A has back to back diode between Vcell 16 and TOP.

  • Well that is what I am focusing on. In the same figure VSENSE13 to VSENSE16 pins are shorted at the device pins. What if each VSENSE pin had its own 100 ohms resistors and 1uF caps and we have shorted the filter inputs? Would it work the same way?

  • Hello,

We recommend to follow the datasheet as described on figure 25 to connect unused cells. While it may work if you test this with the filters in the system, we don't recommend this because now you will have components that have the potential to interfere during transients and other events.

    Regards,
