MC33063A: confirm if MC33063A is appropriate

Part Number: MC33063A

Dear all,

Customers use two lead-acid batteries in series for standby power. At present, there is a demand for battery charging which increases the voltage of 28V to 30V and the output Current is 500 mA.

We recommend MC33063A according to customer's voltage and current requirements. However, whether MC33063A can be used in lead-acid battery charging scheme, that is needed to confirm. And do you have any other better charging schemes to recommend? Thank you for your help.

Best Regards.

  • Hi Kevin,

the MC33063A can work as a boost converter, but it can't be used for change a battery. you may need to add a another charger circuit in the output of the boost to change the battery.

  • Dear Jasper,

Thank you very much for your answer.

I'll give your comments back to the customers, who say that they have another constant current circuit to charge the battery after boosting.

As long as the chip can boost the voltage, customers will verify the function themselves. Customers want to test it first.

    Best Regards.
