BQ25121A: Verify operation when 5V=IN, VBAT present and CD is High?

Part Number: BQ25121A

Hello Team,

I wanted to clarify some operation questions during the following conditions:

This is the setup:

1. Both battery and 5V at IN input are connected.

2. Battery charging is disabled. CD is high.

Open questions:

3. PMID should output IN ?

4. Which source will drive the VSYS BUCK and LDO in the above setup?  IN (5V) or Battery?

5. Will the battery have impact on the PMIC operation in this state? It isn’t clear. Are you sure that the IN input (5V) is the supply source in this setup.

  • Hello Julio,

PMID will output IN voltage when both In and BAT are present

VSYS buck is normally powered by PMID. VINLS is the input for the LDO. If VINLS is connected to PMID, PMID will power the LDO.

As long as the input is present, PMID will be powered by IN.

  • Hi Raheem,

I received a feedback from the customer, can you confirm the statement below?

    ###################################################################################################################

Please note that VINLS is the Input to the load switch. We connected VINLS to SYS output (see also datasheet simplified schematic on page 1).

We use the LS/LDO output as switched SYS output via the PMIC load switch.

Therefore, when there is 5V in the IN input the following will happen:

    1. PMID will be derived by IN = 5V.

    2. SYS will be powered by PMID.

    3. LS/LDO is switched SYS output.

  • Fabio, Raheem,

I confirmed the answer, spoke to the engineer this morning and the feedback helped them resolve their issue. Thank you for the help.
