BQ25606: Battery Charging Stop when System Load connected.

Hello,

Make circuit with Bq25606 and TPS61230 as attached.

It charges battery well without any load on Vout.

But when load (around 150mA load current) connected to Vout, battery charging is stop and STAT LED is blinking.

Could you let me know why this kind of charging fault is occurred and how can I fix it?

Hi Nicky,

Instead of pulling current from VOUT, can you please try disconnecting the BQ25606 from the TPS61230 and connecting an e-load directly to SYS in the BQ25606 circuit? I'd like to see if the fault still occurs if you bypass the TPS61230 circuit and pull current directly from the BQ25606 using an e-load.

Hi Angelo,

Disconnecting BQ25606 from TPS61230A and connect system load (around 150mA) directly to BQ25606, it still charge well.

But doesn't have e-load, so cannot test with.

Hi Nicky,

Okay, so the BQ25606 works correctly on its own. It can successfully charge the battery while powering the system. The issue only arises when the TPS61230 circuit is connected to the SYSTEM output.

I think the next thing to check would be whether the TPS61230 circuit works correctly on its own.

Hi Angelo,

After cut signal line beside of charger IC and connect GND pad under charger IC to other GND pad, this symptom is disappeared.

Is there any recommended GND size under charger IC?

Regarding the ground connection, please follow the layout guidelines in Section 11 of the datasheet (especially 4, 5, and 7 shown below):
