TPS2546: Unexpected auto-wakeup from a USB disk

Hi,

Our customer encounter an unexpected auto wake-up issue (S3-->S0) shortly after their laptop has a S0-->S3 transition. Some details as below,

Currently the issue is duplicable with 2 specific models of USB3.0 disk
The issue is not duplicable if ILIM_SEL is always low
When ILIM_SEL is high, the failed rate is pretty high.
S0 mode setting: CTL1/CTL2/CTL3 is "111"
S3 mode setting: CTL1/CTL2/CTL3 is "011"

Related waveforms as below. Please share your in puts why it would wake up unexpectedly.

Normal S0-->S3 (CH1_CTL1 / CH2_VBUS / CH3_DM_IN / CH4_DP_IN)

Normal S3-->S0 (CH1_CTL1 / CH2_VBUS / CH3_DM_IN / CH4_DP_IN)

Abnormal wake-up (S3-->S0) happening immediately after S0-->S3 (CH1_CTL1 / CH2_VBUS / CH3_DM_IN / CH4_DP_IN)

Hi Antony,

Is there any difference between your test setups for the normal and abnormal transitions? Do you have a device connected to the Type-A port during these transitions? If so, what device?

Hi Adam,

There's no difference between the setup of normal and abnormal cases. They simply connect a specific model of USB3.0 disk (like below) to their laptop system under S0 mode, and then configure the laptop into S3 (sleep) mode to duplicate the issue. So, yes, this USB disk is connected during transition.

Hi Antony,

When connecting a peripheral to the port while the system is in S0, they must wait 60 seconds before transitioning to S3. No customer would plug in a peripheral and immediately put their system into sleep mode

Hi Adam,

Customer finally be able to make the test waiting for 60 seconds, and the issue still happens. Tomorrow I would have a chance to test with the using this specific USB3 disk. I plan to use TPS2546 EVM to test with it and check if the issue is still duplicable or not. Please let me know if you want us to measure anything particular for clarification.
