TPS92518: Diode on VIN

Hello team,

Quick question, on the datasheet, section 8.3.3.1, it talks about ringing in shunt mode. Customer is not planning to use shunt mode, but LEDs will be detachable, so should we include the diode to VIN? I would think yes, but double checking.

("This protection must also be used if the LED load is ever to be connected or removed while the output is enabled")

Yes, I would always include a diode from Vout to Vin on a buck converter. If the load is ever removed during operation, the energy in the inductor and the parasitic inductance and capacitance of the load connection can cause a large ringing event at the output. This can damage the device through the VOUT pin connection. Shunt FET dimming is a periodic event that will continually potentially cause this problem, however any open load event can also.

So, yes....my recommendation is to include it.
