BQ24160: BQ24160: about Load from SYS pin

Part Number: BQ24160
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25890

Hello,community

I asked the following questions and got answers.

Regarding “it will allow current to flow from BAT to SYS in supplement mode as needed”, what is the state when the FET turns on in supplement mode?

question

(1)When charging is complete, turn off the battery FET.
At this time, when the VSYS (REG) voltage rose to VBATREG + 3%, it was read from the data sheet.
Maintain the Not high impedance mode with the IN or USB input connected.
Load from SYS pin.
Since the FET is off, is it supplied to the SYS pin load from the IN or USB input?

anser

Regarding 1, even if battery charging has terminated and the BATFET doesn't allow current to flow from SYS to BAT, it will allow current to flow from BAT to SYS in supplement mode as needed.

Best Regards,

Goto

  • Hi Goto,

All of our chargers allow current flow from BAT to SYS to supplement the system load, regardless of input power attached or HiZ mode or charge disabled/terminated.  There a few chargers (for example, BQ25890 family) that have a separate bit to fully turn off the BATFET for ship mode.

  • Goto,

If power is attached and HiZ mode is not enabled by bit or pin, then the buck converter provides the load to SYS up to its input power limit.  Above that limit, the BAT will supplement.

    Jeff
