UCC28742: Can flyback used in 200W output power, 400V DC Vin, 110V DC Vout?

Dear team,

My customer want to design an isolated DC-DC scheme, which is used between a 1kW PFC output and an inverter.

As there are 3 channels signals for redundancy, they want to use a simplest DC-DC scheme, in order to reduce controller number for 3 channel.

Q1: Is there any reference isolated scheme for least controller number? Output power is 200W.

Q2: Can they use flyback for 200W output power or a multi-side flyback for 3*200W output? I didn't find a flyback reference design above 200W.

Q3: If flyback can achieve 200W or multi-side 600W output power, is UCC28742 suitable? Or any other reference?

    May I direct you towards an LLC solution followed by your 1kW PFC. I think it will be more lenient in terms of meeting efficiency requirements than a flyback solution, especially for such high power.

    Customer prefer a simpler debug scheme rather than LLC, so they are going to use one half bridge for each 200W output channel.

    I think this scheme is OK, right? And is there any reference design on your side of LM5036 or UCC28250 for about 200W output, 380V~400V DC input ?

  • Hi Yunjing,

    LLC is the most popular for 400V input because of ZVS. LM5036 and UCC28250 are targeted at telecoms input voltage range, 48V, where the lack of ZVS is not an issue.

    Flyback topology is not suitable over 150W.

    PMP10110 is a hard switched half using the LM5039 in the isolate stage. This may be of use to you if your customer does not want to use LLC.
