BQ4050: How to program

I want to apply BQ4050 for BMS application.I don't find manual/guideline how to write a progrom for bQ4050.I found only BQ4050 evaluation module and BQ4050 technical reference.Is this built in program?Does TI provide wireless BMS solution?

Hi Nazri,

Please download bqstudio to be able to communicate with the gauge. The gauge comes with pre programmed fw. You can change fw config using bqstudio. No, we don't have a wireless solution.

Pleasa specify what fw config using bqstudio?Is that means parameter for register,data memory?I want to develop wireless system using this bq4050 module.How to extract the data from this module in order to create wireless module.

In evaluation module document,in firmware section it said that it can browse the srec file.I tried to searh tis srec file but couldn't find.Is this default file created in system?

Hi Nazri,

The bq4050 gauge comes preprogrammed. You can export the fw srec by clicking on read srec from device. You can do this both for defaults as well as if you want to save your particular configuration. The config can be changed by using the data memory plugin. TI does not provide wireless drivers, we use standard smbus. Any standard smbus driver will work with the device.

Hi Nazri,

Please click on browse and choose a directory and a filename to save the srec. Then click on read srec from device. Also, if you are not in fw programming mode, please use the advanced comm smb plugin to write word, 0x0f00 to 0x00 to put the gauge in fw programming mode. Then use the fw plugin to export your srec. Once you have exported, uncheck the execute after programming box and click execute. This will recover the device.

Hi Nazri,

The bq4050 uses standard SMBUS in comms as a slave device. Your pic IC should have to master the gauge.
