LMZ31710: Chassis connection

Part Number: LMZ31710

We are using LMZ31710RQVT device (9 pcs) in our project design. We want to dissipate the heat of the device by routing it to chassis GND for this please clarify:
Can we short the PH pins of all the 9 IC's together and connect it with our chassis ground. Our chassis ground is shorted with the signal ground at a single point.

  • Hi Elisha,

THe PH pin is the phase switch node and must not be tied to anything other than the small copper island which connects all PH pins together under the device. Shorting the PH to signal ground will result in damage on the internal inductor.

I would recommend increasing the board area appropriately and increase the thermal relief vias that connect the top side power and ground plane to the bottom and internal power and ground planes. This way more heat can be dissipated through the bottom layer and keep the part running cool.

    Regards,
