TPS23880: Test 1 BT port (4-pair) with 2 AT PD device(2-pair)

Part Number: TPS23880

Hi Team,

Our customer testing 1 BT port (4 pair) with 2 AT PD device, 1 PD connect to Alt A (2 pair), 1 PD connect to Alt B (2 pair)

1. For original 4-pair(Channel 1 + Channel 2 for BT) port setting, is this test work (connect 1 PD at Alt A of the BT port and another one at Alt B)?

2. If not, then how can I do? Set each channel as an independent 2-pair port for AT?

Thank you,

C.T.

  • Hi CT,

What is your goal of testing here? Do you want to test the TPS23880 4 pair port with dual signature PD? If that's the case, you can break the cat5 cable and connect 1 PD to Alt A and 1 PD to Alt B and connect the other end to the PSE port. In this case, the PSE will recognize the PDs are dual signature PD. You have to make sure you connect both PDs to the cable first and then connect the cable to PSE port. Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Penny

  • Hi Penny,

Sorry I'm not familiar with PSE.

    1. So if the setting of this 4 pair port is single signature, then the test will be failed, am I right?

    2. The single signature or dual signature was set by FW or TPS23880 can detect it automatically?

    3. If it's automatically, than this kind of testing should be passed, am I right?

    Thank you.

    C.T.

  • Hi C.T,

    Please see my response below.

    1. So if the setting of this 4 pair port is single signature, then the test will be failed, am I right?

[Penny]It is not a failure as you don't configure the PSE to single or dual signature mode. You just set it to 4 pair mode and PSE determines how to turn on the port based on the PD's structure.

    2. The single signature or dual signature was set by FW or TPS23880 can detect it automatically?

[Penny]PSE detects automatically when 4 pair mode is selected.

    3. If it's automatically, than this kind of testing should be passed, am I right?

    [Penny] Yes.

    Best regards,

    Penny
