LM5175: How to choose LM5175 buck-boost MOSFET at Vds

Part Number: LM5175
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5176

Hi Team,

How to choose LM5175 buck-boost MOSFET,E.g Vin:9~36V Vo:12V/10A

How to choose MOSFET QH1 QL1 Vds 60V or 40V  or other ???

How about choose Vds at QH2 QL2??

  • Hi Tiffany,

Thank you for posting.  I would strongly recommend LM5176 instead of LM5175.

To choose the MOSFETs, you need to calculate the power dissipations.  Plug in the MOSFET parameters into the design calculator (link given below), you can get the conduction and switching losses.  The key consideration is to minimize the overall losses.

For voltage rating, the buck leg FETs should be rated higher than the max input voltage, and the boost leg FETs rated higher than the output voltage.  A good practice is to choose the FETs having at least 10%~20% voltage margin.
