Dear Sirs,

My customer need bi-direction hot swap in battery trail!

Due to battery need be power source and can be charge, bi-direction is need.

The Battery voltage is 12.6V and the current need 5A.

Please help to suggest solution for it.

Do you want the current to flow in both directions ? Please share a block diagram if you have any.

Hi Sir,

I did not have system block but as customer information, there are embedded main battery and removable backup battery on NB system.

The hot swap will in removable battery trace and control by small EC.

Therefore, the current will flow bi-direction while battery charging or discharging.

Hi Peter,

You can consider connecting two eFuses (TPS25910 or TPS25982 as they can support 5A) in back to back configuration a shown below.

Do not connect the eFuse in 'IN-OUT---OUT-IN' configuration. This configuration puts stress on body diode of one of the eFuse during startup.

As you are connecting the power supply to OUT pin of the eFuse, there could be some leakage into the OUT pin when the eFuse is disabled. You can measure this current and see if it is in your acceptable range.

In case, the leakage current into the OUT pin when eFuse is disabled is more than your required limit you can consider using two Hotswap controllers back to back in similar configuration. Any hotswap controller should be able to do the job.

I also read some old post on E2E and found some people discussed about using LM5069!

If LM5069 also OK for bi-direction flow control and did not have any issue except no current limit in reverse current flow?

Hi Peter,

As I said any Hotswap controller should be able to do this job.

LM5069 is a high voltage Hotswap. As this is a 12V application, you can consider any low voltage Hotswap like LM25069, TPS24710, or select from the list in the link below
