BQ24005: Alternate part for higher charge current

Hi,

Suggest a replacement for the BQ24005 so as to overcome the following problems with the existing IC:

  • Higher charge current not supported
  • Heating issue at higher charge current (I am using 1A charge current and charging voltage of 9V for 12Ah - 2S5P Li ion battery)

I need charge current of 2A and as the charger needs to interface with a host controller, it should indicate faults such as precharge timer fault, fast charge timer fault, temperature faults, charge status etc.

    Hi Parthan

    We do not have higher current options in the linear charger family, 1A is a max.  As current gets higher the thermal management problems are more difficult.

    For 2A a switching charger would be a better option.

    Some to consider:

    1.) BQ24133-- Wide input buck converter for 1, 2 or 3 cell.

    2.) BQ25883--5V input boost converter
