BQ27750: SMB protocol used in programming device

Part Number: BQ27750

In the tech ref doc, I see that under section: 11.2.44 it says, that ROM Commands are sent to address 0x16 using the SMB protocol.

  1. How exactly is this protocol used to program the device?
  2. Is this what is used in the tool as well to program the device in ROM mode?
  3. When programming from a MCU-->BQ27750, can we use standard I2C or are there specific additional steps we need to take?

Thanks,

Nick
