BQ24105EVM: bq24105rhlr

Part Number: BQ24105EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24105

Hello,
When i supply input voltage to bq24105RHLR (no load on the output, just a capacitor of 20uF),
the output voltage behaves strange:
The voltage rises pretty fast, and then it is discharged to zero. this process continue 'forever'.
It seens that bq24105RHLR charges and discharge the output voltage.

I see the same phenomenon in my pcb and in the evaluation board.

how can i resolve it?

Thanks,
Arkadi

  • Arkadi,

The BQ24105 has battery detection circuitry that pushes then pulls current into the output capacitor in parallel with battery as explained in datasheet seciton 8.3.16.  If the output voltage moves, because only a small capacitor is attached, the charger realizes there is no battery attached.  If you increase the output capacitor>250uF, you can defeat the battery charge circuit as also explained in datasheet section 8.3.16.
