TPS659039-Q1: Power Consumption Exceeding for TDA2HG

Part Number: TPS659039-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDA2HG

Hello,

We are using TPS659039-Q1 as PMIC for TDA2HG. A extreme case power consumption report for our given input was obtained from TI representative, which is attached. As we see in that the VDD_CORE takes 2.38A input current and is connected to SMPS 7 which can only provide 2A.

So, is it possible to connect VDD_CORE to SMPS3 (3A) and VDD_MPU to SMPS1, SMPS2 (6A) and SMPS7 unused.

If not, can we use SMPS6 (2 A or 3 A) for VDD_CORE and SMPS7 (2A) for VDD_GPU.

Kindly let me know if this arrangement has any issue with respect to voltage, sequencing or any other things. If there is a better alternative kindly suggest.response_TDA_power_calculation(1).xlsx

  • Nagarjun,

Hi, The TPS659039-Q1 has default settings that determine the start up voltages and sequencing. If you change the power mapping between the PMIC and the processor, there is a likely chance that you will violate the power requirements of the processor. I recommend working with your TI representative to look for an alternate power solution for your use case.

Have you checked out the TPS65917 solution for TDA2x devices? (http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvuaj1f/slvuaj1f.pdf )

    Thanks,

    Nastasha
