Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5069,
Hello,
We are wondering why TI is recommending to use LM5069 over TPS2493, as LM5069 seems to be a much older part than TPS2493.
Thank you
Kind Regards

Hi Farkas,
Thanks for reaching out!
Both device architectures are slightly different. LM5069 provides faster response for overload/short circuit fault than TPS249x devices which helps to have more SOA design margin for a given hot-swap MOSFET. However, TPS249x would be preferred choice for applications where higher transient immunity (slower response avoids triggering the circuit breaker for marginal overloads) is needed.

Hi Rakesh,
''LM5069 provides faster response for overload/short circuit fault than TPS249x devices''
Is there any spec to show this performance difference?
Hi Hollis,
It is given as tCB in LM5069 datasheet and tF_TRIP in TPS249x datasheet.Though max. response time is same for both the devices, the GATE loop in LM5069 acts immediately as soon as short circuit hits circuit breaker threshold where as in TPS249x device, the GATE response is non-linear function of overdrive (i.e., short circuit circuit). TPS249x needs larger short circuit fault circuit to meet the same response as LM5069 device. However, this difference in response may not be very significant to notice in actual systems.
