WEBENCH® Tools/LM5170-Q1: LM5170 support buck-boost converter when Vin is vary range (52V drop to 45V)

Part Number: LM5170-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5170

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello,

TI FAE suggest us to use the LM5170. But I didn't find any application to improve it.

Only found 48V to 12V EVM board.

Spec: Input voltage source is 52V~45V. Output voltage set 54V. Pout is 3KW. Iout is 55A.

Do you have any idea about this application? Or any suggestion?

Please give me the light.

Thanks.

Aska

  • Hello Aska,

Thanks for reaching out with your question and considering the LM5170.

What is you application? The LM5170 is intended to be a bi-directional current controller between at 48V battery and a 12V battery. However there are multiple application spaces the the LM5170 can fit.

Please provide a description of you application and I can help point you in the correct direction.

    Thanks,

    Garrett

  • Hi Garrett:

The input source is 52V battery (52V drop to 45V). So we need the boost converter to support 54V (3KW).

Q1) We don't need bi-direction function. May we only use the boost by LM5170?

Q2) While LM5170 apply in boost mode, can we remove the the circuit breaker mosfet?

    Thanks.

  • Hello Aska,

    Please see my responses below

Q1) We don't need bi-direction function. May we only use the boost by LM5170?

Yes, the LM5170 can be used as a boost only device.

Q2) While LM5170 apply in boost mode, can we remove the the circuit breaker mosfet?

Yes the circuit breaker MOSFETs can be removed. The datasheet specifies how to connect the BRKG and BRKS pins to allow for operation with out the breaker FETs.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Garrett
