BQ40Z50-R1: EV2400: After updating to 0.28 no connection to bq40z50-R1 possible anymore

EV2400 Firmware: v0.28 (previously v0.05)

bqStudio v1.3.86 Win7

ICs:
- bq34z100-G1 I2C (working)
- bq40z50-R1 SMBus (not working anymore)

When trying to fix another bug, I came across the possibility that the firmware of the EV2400 was too old. But after updating the firmware from v0.05 to v0.28 I can't connect to the bq40z50 anymore!

I have already performed the following tests:

Hooked up my saleae and get valid addressing + ACK as I also got with the old firmware version (see screenshots for both versions below). So wiring is not the problem.
The setup worked 5 minutes ago. So gauge parameter programming are not the problem.
Putting the bq40z50 into the device I built, the bq40z50 responds and works.So the bq40z50 is still alive and is not the problem.
A battery with a bq34z100 connected to the EV2400 via I2C is still working. So it's not a Windows / driver problem.

A) Is there an option in bqStudio I missed to set?

B) Is there a way to downgrade my EV2400 to an older version? (on the EV2400 page the download link for V0.18 redirects me to v0.28)

Hi Thaddaeus,

You can reflash the ev2400 by just plugging into the USB port and using the command prompt -s option. So your command should be EV2400_Updater_v0028.exe -s in a DOS prompt.

Hey Batt,

Sorry, I tried and it doesn't fix the problem. I'm confused why I should flash firmware v0.28 again if this firmware works fine with another type of battery.

How about my second idea of solving this issue?

Can you provide me with an older firmware (V0.05 or v0.18)?

Hey Batt,

Thank you for the provided v0.18 firmware. Unfortunately it didn't work.

Digging deep into the rabbit hole, I found irregularities in the voltage levels of the SMBus lines inside the EV2400. So I removed my external pullup resistors from my adapter and now it works!!?
This adapter has always worked in the last 3 years. The Bq40z50 board (same design as eval kit) was always the same. Always the same EV2400 HPA500 rev.A..... hmm. So, can it be software related?
My wild guess is that with my previously used firmware v0.05 the internal pullups were not active.

I can check or disprove this, when you also provide me with firmware v0.05. Would that be possible for you?
