Asking for the reset IC recommendation and circuit design

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3711, TPS3700EVM-114

Hi Team,
Customer is looking for reset IC for the following conditions.

1. monitor Vbus (3.69V~20V) voltage to determine send low voltage
2. if the Vbus is larger than 3.69V, then the reset IC will output high.
3. if the Vbus is smaller than 3.69V, then the reset IC will go to low.

Would you please recommend the reset IC recommendation and how to design the circuit?

BR,
SHH

  • Hi SHH,

We have a breadth of undervoltage supervisors (reset IC) such as what you are looking for. We only have a few devices which support greater than 18 V on the input. Please recommend the TPS3711, a single channel adjustable supervisor which supports a Vdd range of 1.8 to 36 V. The customer can set the desired trip threshold at 3.69 V or as they wish depending on external resistors.

    Thanks,

    Abhinav.

  • Hi Abhinav,

    thanks for help.

for 3.69 detection, do you have concern for R1=2Mohm, R2=280kohm?

the EVM seems not available on TI store. Do you have other suggestion for the experiment? or other EVM is suit for this experiment with replacing TPS3711 samples?

    BR,

    SHH

  • SHH,

I also wanted to ask if you have any Iq concerns. If not, we can actually look at our entire portfolio of voltage supervisors and use a resistor divider on the Vdd rail itself. This will provide you more flexibility in choice and cost. Also, I would recommend following this app note: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slva450a/slva450a.pdf to correctly choose the resistors for a resistor divider application. If Iq is not a concern, let me know if you need alternate recommendations.

For an EVM, please look for the TPS3700EVM-114 on the samples site. This is for a SOT-23 package and you should be able to use this EVM for your TPS3711.

    Thanks,
    Abhinav.
