BQ24450: Charging 1-cell lead-aсid battery

Part Number: BQ24450

Dear Sir, please, answer

I’d like to use bq24450 at 3 A charging current. I tested this circuit and it works (please see attach).

The initial current is about 3 A, as the battery charges, the current decreases.

Qext transistor 2SA2222SG has current gain Hfe min= 150.

What do you think, is it possible to use this circuit for 3 A current? Temperature range from minus 40 to plus 60 C.

TIA.

Sincerely,

Vladimir Naumenkov

  • Hello Vladimir Naumenkov

I reviewed the schematic and did not see any problems but encourage you to thoroughly evaluate the device to verify that it meets your requirements.

As you have noted, the power dissipation on the pass element will be high and a good thermal management is required.
