BQ76940: Adjacent Cell Balancing with 9 cells

Good day,

From the datasheet, at the bottom cell group:

VC1–VC0 is CELL 1
VC2–VC1 is CELL 2
VC3–VC2 is SHORT
VC4–VC3 is SHORT
VC5–VC4 is CELL3

There is a note that adjacent cells should not be balanced simultaneously. My question is; Is CELL 3 considered adjacent to CELL 2? If no, that means I can enable balancing on CELL 3 without worries about adjacent cell balancing, right? (since CELL 4 will be on another cell group)

    Hi Robert,

    Yes, if VC2-VC3 is shorted and VC3-VC4 is sorted then cells 2 and 3 are adjacent. They share the filter resistor from the cell2-top/cell3-bottom net to the VC2/VC3/VC4 net and should not be balanced simultaneously.
