Hi Holger,
I think you mean TPS65216 instead of TPG65216?
Just to make sure we have right devices.
Holger,
TPS65218D0 is full-featured version of the device that supports Li-Ion battery operation for all DC-DCs & LDOs and also supports backup-battery domain and can be powered from coin cell. 3 load switches are integrated in -218D0. Powering the AM335x, AM437x, and AM438x with TPS65218 (Rev. A) is a User's Guide which shows the connections required for powering Sitara devices using TPS65218D0.
TPS65216 is a cost-optimized variant of the device that is intended to work in line-powered applications (VIN = 5V) and does not support backup-battery domain or coin-cell operation (entire Backup-battery domain is changed to NC or GND). Only 1 load switch is included in TPS65216. Powering AMIC110, AMIC120, AM335x, and AM437x with TPS65216 is a User's Guide which shows the connections required for powering Sitara devices using TPS65216.
The AM335x PMIC Selection Guide (Rev. A) explains these differences at a high-level.
Yes, the TPS65216 and TPS65218D0 are pin-to-pin footprint compatible. The schematic would not be identical, however, because many pins that are used for the TPS65218D0 are terminated to GND on the TPS65216.
The TPS65218 is NRND and should not be used in new designs.
