BQ24250: What if a non-rechargeable battery is inserted to BQ24250?

Part Number: BQ24250

Hi team,

My customer is designing a charging circuit for one-cell battery with BQ24250. But the battery in the system is replaceable. So there will be a possible case that the end user may mistakenly insert a non-rechargeable battey to the charger. So what will happen when a non-rechargeable battery is inserted? I think the voltage of the non-rechargeable battery will keep unchanged and there's so charge current flowing into it. But can the charger tell this special situation and output some warning signal or do some protection? Is there any danger for the system? Thanks.

Best regards,

Wayne

  • Wayne,

The charger can't tell the primary battery and the recharge battery. Charging non-rechargeable battery could induce overheat condition and safety concern. It would be better to have mechanical design to allow only the rechargeable batteries’ plug-in.
