WEBENCH® Tools/TPS23880: TPS23880 Link Up Speed

Part Number: TPS23880

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi TI Team,

We also checked the TPS23880EVM document. In page 2 of that document, it says:

“Two IEEE802.3bt (draft) 4-pair ports with 1000BASE-T (gigabit Ethernet data pass-through)”

That means that the EVM supports only 1Gb Ethernet.

Do you have similar or higher version of PoE EVM (Evaluation Module) that design to run in 10GbE?

In case none, do you plan to create one? Or can you recommend TI third party partner that has EVM that support 10GbE?

Appreciate immediate response.

Thanks,

Conrad

  • Hi Conrado,

PoE devices don't do anything about the data rate. PSE devices only supply power to the cat5 cable and they are only specified with power levels. The reason we mark the data rate on the board is that we chose magjacks with 1G data rate. There's no switch chips on this EVM and this EVM is only designed for PoE power evaluation. We don't have any EVMs designing with 10G data transformers or magjacks and we don't have a plan to do so as the EVM doesn't deal with data at all. If you want to inject data through the black RJ45 connectors (near the magjacks) and test data with power together, you can replace the magjacks with proper data rate and power ratings. Thanks.

  • Hi Penny,

We have go through with the development evaluation and yet your feedback are so helpful on our current process and design decisions were made. Thanks a lot for your explanation.
