BQ24780S: BTST Resistor

Part Number: BQ24780S

Hi Team,

What is the purpose of the 6.8Ohm resistor (R19 on the EVM) on the BTST pin? Is it necessary?

Regards, Diego Lewis

  • Hi Diego,

R19 slows down turn of the HSFET, and reduces ringing on the switch node when HSFET is turned on. This helps with EMI, but if the ringing on the switch node isnt an issue then it can be replaced with a 0 ohm resistor. It depends on the customer and application. This resistor in series with BTST is quite common on most of our charger IC EVMs.
