BQ24040: BQ24040 charge issue

Part Number: BQ24040

I have a project that USES the BQ24040 design. Oil used in the product can drops onto the BQ24040 chip in some conditions, and the BQ24040 cannot be charged. Maybe the oil is conductive? I would like to ask what this uncharged failure mode looks like.

Thanks!

  • Hello

It is very difficult to predict what the failure mode will be, properties of the liquid are unknown and device is not designed for this situation.

But the most likely area to look at is the TS pin, a 50uA current source will develop a voltage across the NTC thermistor proportional to temp.  If the liquid is conductive or changes NTC resistance the device could detect a high temp fault, voltage below 178mV.
