TPS23880: PoH support

hi,

a customer of mine is considering using the TPS23880 (PoE 802.3bt PSE) in their products, as test showed excellent performance.

Unfortunatelty they need to supporto also high-power PoH (Power OverHDBase T, power > 60W) PD devices.

Typ products are IR cameras and LED lights, and needs six classification pulses beforing power-up.

Can we use TPS23880 to support this six classification pulses?

    Hi Vincenzo,

    TPS23880 doesn't support 6 classification event (nonstandard). The PoH PD always presents class 4 to standard PSEs and standard PSEs should set  the power limit to 30W. If there's a way for the PD system to let the PSE system know that the PD needs high power, for example, sending data from LLDP, the PSE's port power limit can be increased to >60W by changing some register settings.
