TPS56221: TPS56221 PGD pin quesition

Hi team,

Our customer pull up PGD pin of TPS56221 to input voltage wrongly(input voltage is 14.5V, pull up resistor is 3.3kohm), we know that the maximum voltage of this pin is 7V, but as customer can`t modify the circuit currently, so they wonder if this connection will damage the device?

As I know most of our IC pin has ESD protection diode, max current is 5mA generally, so I ask customer change the pull up resistor to 100kohm, but I am not sure if this solution if safety for TPS56221?

Or do you any other solution?

Placing a sustained dc voltage greater than the 7V ESD, such as the 14.5V, will eventually breakdown the circuit.

You can limit the current with a resistor, but the current needed to prevent any issues is not known or tested.

Additionally, the recommended operating input voltage of the TPS56221 is 14V.

If using a very large pullup resistor the leakage current of PGD will limit the voltage output voltage range for signal high and low.

The easiest solution for voltage compliance issues is a voltage divider. Use the pullup resistor on PGOOD and add a resistor to PGD to ground.
