BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW: Diffrence between SafetyStatus and SafetyAlert

Part Number: BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW

Hi team,

I'd like to know the difference between SafetyStatus and SafetyAlert, and how they are set by the cell voltage.
I charged the 14S battery with BQ76940 and BQ78350-R2 to COV threshold voltage which is 4150mV.
In this charging, COV of SafetyStatus was set when the highest cell went about 4000mV, and COV of SafetyAlert wasn't set.

I attach the screenshot when relax after charge for the reference.
You will see the COV of SafetyStatus is still set and the one of SafetyAlert is not set.

Makoto Teramoto

  • Hi Makoto,

In section 3.3 of the BQ78350-R1 Technical Reference Manual, it shows how the SafetyStatus[COV] and SafetyAlert[COV] bits work during an over-voltage event. First the SafetyAlert[COV] bit will go high, but after the COV:Delay Duration is met (default setting is 2 seconds), the SafetyAlert[COV] bit goes low and the SafetyStatus[COV] bit goes high. These indicate different phases of the event.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

Thank you for your rapid answer!

I've got the difference and algorithm now.
