TPS23754: Component power dissipation

Part Number: TPS23754

Hello,

My customer using TPS23754EVM-420 , they find the Q2,D15,D16 temp have some little high at room temp condition, they need to build thermal simulation model, need to know Q2,D15,D16 power dissipation,so how to calculate it ?

  • Hello Fandy,

MOSFET power dissipation can be calculated by the conduction losses and the switching losses. The following paper explains how to calculate these: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slyt664/slyt664.pdf

Power dissipation for a diode is the forward current times the forward voltage drop. However, since this is a flyback, I would suggest measuring the peak current for the diode.

The diode forward current / voltage information, along with a Power Derating Curve, should be in the datasheet. https://www.diodes.com/assets/Datasheets/ds30119.pdf

Our approach is to take the thermal and efficiency data once the whole system is operating, versus trying to calculate it or model it. It can be difficult to do model the system well since there are so many factors. The above equations and app notes should aid you in this process.
