BQ25892: BQ25892

Part Number: BQ25892
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ28Z610

Hi,

For BQ25892, We can set the voltage and current limit based on a sample battery charger profile.

For different temperature range, voltage and current limit is varying.

QUESTION 1: Is there any way I can program BQ25892 voltage and current limit for multiple temperature ranges?

QUESTION 2: iF the answer of question 1 is no, should I monitor the battery temperature with gauge (bq28z610) and update the voltage and current limit?

QUESTION 3: Is there a better a better way to program bq25892 for the given battery charger profile below:

Thanks and best regards

  • Redwood,

Regarding 1, the voltage step and current step have limited I2C programmable as shown in datasheet figure 15.  This program-ability is not flexible enough to meet the profile above.

Regarding 2, yes, you must use the gauge to monitor the temperature and then host software to reprogram the charge current and charge voltage based on the NTC temperature.

    Regarding 3, no.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Hi,

Based on Fig15 of BQ25892 datasheet, The temperature value is used based on BQ25892 temperature sensor. We are using the battery pack which comes with GAUGE bq28z610.

Because of the reason mentioned above, the feature of bq25892 can not be used. Please CONFIRM. Is this true????? Because we are using the temperature from the gauge.

    Thanks and best regards

  • Hi Redwood,

You are correct.  You cannot use the charger TS function if the thermistor is connected to the gauge.
