LM5164: Rron Resistor Size Question

Part Number: LM5164

Hi,

I'm trying to understand the minimum power dissipation of Rron.  In the datasheet and on the EVM, I've seen examples where an 0603 (100mW) can be used.  Using webbench to come up with a design, it seems to be stipulating a resistor size no smaller than 0805 (125mW).  There doesn't seem to be much documentation stating what power dissipation requirements needs to be.  I was wondering if this can be clarified.

Thanks

  • Erik,

Very little power will be dissipated in RRON. We can quickly check the worst case by seeing the Absolute Maximum Rating of RON to GND = 5.5V. RRON is on the order of 100kohms which means we would expect 0.3mW of power dissipation if RON was 5.5V and RRON was 100kohms. You can use any package you'd like.
