WEBENCH® Tools/BQ25895: BQ25895RTWR

Part Number: BQ25895

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello,

Do I need to place ESD protection circuit on pin1(VBUS) of "BQ25895RTWR". We have connected Barrel connector of 12V, 1.5A.

  • Hi R_K,

The BQ25895 has robust ESD cell at VBUS.  Additional protection is generally not required and can provide further protection.

If you expect voltage spikes above 20V at hotplug of the barrel adapter, then I recommend adding an input snubber consisting of a 2 ohm resistor in series with 2.2 uF from VBUS to ground.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Thank you Jeff.

  • One more question I had regarding D+ &D- pins.

Currently I have kept pads for 0Ohms jumper to be connected. Please let me know if I should populate R31 with 0Ohms or some other value or should I leave it floating or whether D+/D- needs to be connected to any other logic separately?

Link to any APP note would be helpful.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Rahul

  • Hi RK,

Shorting D+/D- results in the charger setting the input current limit I2C register to 3.25A. If you want to limit input current limit below this value, you can use the ILIM pin resistor to do so.  Later, your host software can disable the ILIM pin and change the input current limit I2C register.

    Regards,

    Jeff
