LM5180: isolation and transformer recommendation

Hello team,

my customer needs an AC/DC flyback with roughly an input from 18Vac to 30Vac and 5W. We've noticed that in our app notes we always indicate the use of transformers, unfortunately the customer needs high isolation (at least 4k Vrms for 1 minute); do you know any transformer with high isolation that could work in this application/case?

If not the solution will be to make a custom one.

Adrian,

Yes there are transformers with this isolation. This is one of the filters on digikey. If the customer cannot find what they're looking for on digikey, they can speak with their transformer vendor and inform them of this isolation requirement for a custom solution.

I do not have a part number off the top of my head.

You can use the LM5180 Calculator Tool to find your transformer specs. Then search through digikey or speak with a transformer vendor about their products which could meet those specs. 4kV isolation is not common so it may require emailing Wurth or Coilcraft.
