EV2400: EV2400 or bqStudio communication problems

Part Number: EV2400
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, BQ27441EVM-G1B,

I’m running Windows 10 on a 64-bit system with 8 GB of RAM and a 4.2 GHz processor. I just purchased an EV2400 and BQ27441EVM-G1B. I was able to successfully run 0.28 firmware update, however when I open Battery Management Studio with the BQ27441EVM-G1B connected it automatically comes in the bqStudio Supported Targets window. When I select any of the bq27441.bqz targets I get a message stating “The detected device is not compatible with this application! Some actions could cause the device to lose communication permanently and enter an unrecoverable state. Proceed at your own risk.” When I Cancel out of this bqStudio closes. What am I doing wrong?

  • When you select the bq27441 target, are you able to communicate with the gauge? If no, you might have a fauty chip that needs to be replaced.

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

When I select the target I immediately get the pop-up saying that continuing may permanently disable communication so I cancel out and bqs closes.

I tried uninstalling and installing bqs and when I tried to run the EV2400 updater I get the following message; "Error: No Free EV2400s Detected. If one is connected but the LEDs are not on, try running this program with the -s option.".  One is connect and all LEDs are on so now I appear to be further behind...  Any ideas?

    Thanks

  • I should also add that I have a Battery Babysitter from SparkFun (part no PRT-13777) and I get the same results when I hook it up to the EV2400 and I have verified that the Babysitter talks using an Arduino Nano.  I have also verified that my BQ27441EVM-G1 works with my Arduino Nano, therefore my problem must be with either the EV2400 or the bqs app.

  • Hi Vernon

Have you tried installing a differnt version of bqstudio fromhe product folder? Also try pressing the reset pin of the ev2400. When you connect the device, manually select the device from the menu and see if you are able to communicate. Send a screen shot of the register window.

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

    Here's what I've tried:

I have operational Battery Babysitters boards from SparkFun which work with my Arduino NANO.  The program retrieves 7 parameters from the Babysitter's bq27441, however when I connect my 27441-EVM to the NANO it only returns the second parameter (Battery Voltage in mV) and the rest of the parameters are empty.

So I thought I would confirm that my EV2400 is operational then connect a Babysitter and see what I get, however Battery Management Studio isn't recognizing the EV2400.

I ran the EV2400 Updater v00.28 and I get the error seen in the (hopefully) attached word doc.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Vernon,

Try running the ev2400 in -s mode. as shown in the snippet

Also, i had asked for a snippet of the screen that shows when you start bqstudio.

    thanks

    Onyx

  • Hi Onyx,

I've been out of town and now that I'm back here are the Bit Registers you requested and the results of me running in the -s mode.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hi Vernon,,

I wanted to see the entire bqstudio screen not just the bit registers. ALso, i am seeing that the shut down flag is set. I also wanted to see what the window showed when you started bqstudio before you selected the device from the list.

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

My problem has really put a kink in my design work so I just purchased another EV2400.

Without running the EV2400Updater I was getting the same results and out of curiosity I connected the EV2400 directly to PC's USB port where previously I was connecting through a USB 3.0 HUB. It works!  Now I have to figure out how to learn the Battery Management Studio GUI.

Turns out I didn't need to buy the second EV2400 since the original one works when initialized while connected directly to the PC's USB port.

Thanks so much for all your help!!
