Hi Expert,

Does bq27z561 suitable for host side gauge? If yes, should I change to R1 version? Thanks!

No it is not a system side gauge. It does not allow for having a removable battery.

If the customer won't remove the battery, does bq27Z561 could be system side gauge? Any other risk?

Or you have the better choice of it? Thanks!

No other risk. This is our best gauge for the single cell space at this time.

Hi Onyx,

Adding follow up question from customer side. According to the simplified schematic on P.1 of BQ27Z561 datasheet, we see battery protector is placed between Pack+ and battery. BQ27Z561 is reading the battery after the battery protector IC. (Sequence: Pack+, Protector IC, battery gauge sense pin, battery)

However, my customer would like to implement the battery protector IC inside the battery pack, i.e. (Sequence: Pack+, battery gauge sense pin, Protector IC, battery). Will the gauge be affected if protector IC is placed between the gauge and battery?

Hi Andy,

Tell them not to do that. That will affect the accuracy of the voltage measurement and subsequently gauging accuracy.
