TPS54360B-Q1: Protection circuitry against surge and burst

Part Number: TPS54360B-Q1

Hi,

My customer wants to get E1 certification (EMC compliance) for TPS54360 like mentioned in this post before: https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management/f/196/t/834180.

They don't have a specific problem but would like some guidance on protection circuitry against surge and burst, which is not a topic in the Layout Best Practices.

Can you give guidance on that?

Thank you,

Franz

  • Franz,

We do not have a specific document for buck EMS but we have an app note TIDUAS1 which details IEC ESD, EFT, and Surge for RS-485 Bus Protection. This is not exactly what you're looking for but it has lots of good information about what each test is and how to protect against it.

In short, the TPS54360B-Q1 has ESD diodes built-in which are detailed in the datasheet. For surge protection you can add a TVS diode, series pulse proof resistor, MOV, and TBU as detailed in TIDUAS1.
