TPS2540 - detect USB peripheral device connection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2540

Champs - Customer is using TPS2540 in their design and needs a way  to detect when a USB device is plugged in for charging (there is no USB Host present). Is there any way to configure TPS2540 to achieve this function with or without additional support circuitry? If not, do you have any recommnedations to accomplish detection?

Thanks,

Aaron

  • DCP, auto detect appears to be the best choice for this. Refer to the datasheet description on pg 24. Set the CTL1..CTL3 pins as follows for this mode: 0,X,1 where X = don't care. The other CTL pin settings are tabled in the datasheet (Table 2).

  • Thanks Eric - I may need further clarification on how this helps. We are trying to see if the TPS2540 can generate some kind of output which will signal that a USB peripheral device has been connected. Again - there is no connection to a USB host; however, there is a uC in the system that needs to know when a USB peripheral has been plugged in. Can the TPS2540 help to detect the connection and then generate a signal / event / flag that is readable externally (by the system uC)?

    Thanks,

    Aaron
