BQ40Z50-R1: difference between nominal capacity and real capacity -learning cycle

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R1

Hi,

I have a battery 23Ah(nominal) which I use as a reference before mass production, and after the learning cycle the Qmax is 26AH. There are big variation between batteries from a sames batch.

I created the golden file(with the value of 26Ah Qmax  learned) which I will load inside all the batteries for the production.

My question is: if the  real capacity of the next battery(still 23Ah nominal) is 22Ah,what will happen in the field?Qmax will start at 26Ah and will update quickly to reach 22Ah? Does a big difference could create a fault and activate a protection?.

Other question: at the end of the learning cycle LStatus is 06, do  I have to create the golden file after an other cycle to have Qmax field updated (LStatus 0E) or Qmax field updated will really happen in the field and Lstatus will be updated in the field automatically to 0E ?

Best regards,

Clement

  • hi Clement

Gauge will learn the new qmax in the field. There are no safety conditions if the gauge has not learnt the qmax of the pack in question. The only issues will be SOC accuracy which will be corrected once the gauge learns.

Update status on your golden file should be changed from 06 to 02. Once IT is enabled after programming this golden file, update status will go to 06. Once qmax learns in the field update status will be 0E. Cell balancing is activated at this point.

    thanks
