LM5021: LM5021 - SIC

Part Number: LM5021

Hi Team,

My customer consider use LM5021 for SIC.

For that need to provide 15v (Vcc) through external source (even 19v for negative voltage to the SIC).

I didn't found any data about the Vcc limit, please advise.

Thanks,

Shlomi

  • Hello Shlomi,

Thank you for your interest in the LM5021 PWM controller.

The block diagram on page 10 of the datasheet indicates that VCC is regulated to about 8.5V, provided that VIN is higher than that.
The specification table on page 5 shows that Vvcc is guaranteed between 8V and 9V for the operating conditions listed.  VIN is capable of handling up to 30V, so an external 15V source can drive it, but VIN must first rise to 20V temporarily to enable the IC.

Since VCC powers the OUT-pin driver block, OUT cannot directly provide the 15V needed to drive the SiC Fet.  As you mentioned, an external buffer stage (with + and - sources) is necessary to interface OUT to the SiC Fet.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
