TPS2546: Overcurrent behavior

Part Number: TPS2546

Hi,

Based on the datasheet, the complete shutdown occurs only if the over current condition last for long time enough to trigger thermal limiting.  So, we should not expect Vout become 0V immediately when a overcurrent load is applied.

Meanwhile, can you check if the behavior as below when the overcurrent load is added to the output of TPS2546?

CH1: TPS2546 OUT voltage

CH2: TPS2546 OUT current

THanks!

Antony

  • Hi Antony,

To your first point, correct. During an over current condition, the device will maintain a constant current and reduces the output voltage. This can be seen in your signal when the voltage decreases but the current stays the same.

Because the device stayed in an overcurrent condition, it began to cycle on/off to keep the junction temperature in a normal temperature range while trying to see if the overcurrent condition has been removed. This is an expected operating condition in an overcurrent situation.

    Thanks,

    Emma
